Germany has not tightened travel warning for Namibia

Germany has not tightened its warning about risks for travelers in Namibia. The German Embassy in Windhoek emphasised this early this morning in response to an inquiry from Namibian.org last week. It thus refuted corresponding reports from international travel portals as false (see report by Namibian.org).

The German Foreign Office in Berlin updated its travel advice for Namibia at the beginning of January (see website - in German only). The embassy explained that the employee responsible had only removed the passage concerning the wildfire in the Etosha National Park. They were only able to reach and question the employee today.

The fire in Etosha occurred at the end of September (see report by Namibian.org). Tourists were not in danger. Nature had largely recovered by October due to early rains.

Canada tightened its travel warning for Namibia in mid-December due to allegedly increased crime. The travel portal TravelAndTourWorld.com subsequently reported on the update to Germany's travel advisories. However, it incorrectly claimed that the travel risk had been raised.

Experts consider Namibia a safe travel destination even for 2026. According to a risk analysis by the companies Safeture and Riskline from mid-November, Namibia is in the same category as France, Sweden or Argentina (see report by Namibian.org).
