Operations at Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA) are running smoothly again. Jet fuel supplies are fully secured, reports the Namibian online newspaper Informanté.
The report cites a statement from the Namibia Airports Company (NAC). Sufficient Jet A-1 fuel was once again available to meet the regular demand of all customers. This was confirmed by the two fuel suppliers, Vivo Energy Namibia (VEN) and PUMA Energy.
"Following a successful quality check conducted this week, additional fuel has been released to the airport," Informanté quoted NAC spokesperson Dan Kamati as saying. From mid-August onwards, jet fuel shortages occurred at the airport east of Windhoek. The cause was a shipment of jet fuel that VEN had to return due to poor quality (see report from Namibian.org).
As a result of the shortages, some aircraft on long-haul routes had to make a stopover in Luanda to refuel during their return flights. The German leisure airline Discover Airlines, operating the Windhoek – Frankfurt route, appears to have been particularly affected.
