Fuel price increase not as drastic as feared

By Admin
March 30, 2026

On Wednesday fuel prices will rise in Namibia. From 1 April 2026 at 0:00, a liter of petrol will cost 2.50 Namibian dollars more. This is far less than feared (see report from Namibian.org). The price of diesel, on the other hand, will increase by 4.00 N$ per liter. This was announced by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).

According to a statement from the Ministry dated Friday, 27 March 2026, the following prices per liter will apply in April:
Petrol (ULP 95) - N$ 22.08,
Diesel (50 ppm) - N$ 23.63,
Diesel (10 ppm) - N$ 23.73 (approximately € 1.20; amount at current exchange rate; N$1 = ZAR).

These prices always refer to Walvis Bay, where the main depots are located. Due to transport costs by rail or tanker truck, rates inland are higher, corresponding to the distance.

The increases, by the way, are less than half of those looming in neighboring South Africa. So far, the government has not announced any last-minute intervention (see the news portal IOL). In Namibia, the National Energy Fund (NEF) can cushion large price fluctuations.

But be warned: Many Namibians will still fill up at the lower price. Therefore, expect long lines at petrol stations today and tomorrow. In cities, this especially applies to rush hour in the morning, at midday, and in the evening.
