Game numbers on the rise in the Kalahari

The Gondwana Kalahari Park is recovering well from the last drought. According to the latest game census, the total number of game animals in the private nature reserve has increased by almost 50% within one year.

According to Gondwana Collection, the total population had shrunk by 63% from 2019 to 2020 as a result of the prolonged drought. In the following years, the game numbers have steadily increased again.

 

Total game population grows by 49%

 

The springbok population increased by 8% from 2020 to 2021 and by 49% from 2021 to 2022. Wildebeest and zebra numbers increased by about 20 per cent and 23% respectively from 2021 to 2022. The total game population grew by 49% from 2021 to 2022.
