Discover Airlines lures well-heeled Namibia holidaymakers with oryx goulash

The young Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines is now serving dishes from the countries in its growing portfolio of destinations on long-haul and short-haul flights. The menu includes dishes such as beef roulade with dumplings and Brussels sprouts from Germany, poblano chilli with a vegetarian mole filling from Mexico and oryx goulash from Namibia.

The new food and beverage concept entitled 'Let's discover the taste of joy' is part of its 'quality offensive', the holiday airline announced in the news section of its website at the beginning of this week.

However, this only applies to business class. Passengers on long-haul flights have a choice of 20 cocktails and long drinks, including non-alcoholic options, to get them in the mood for the most wonderful time of the year.

Business class guests can now get into the culinary mood for their flight destination - with dishes such as beef fillet (photo) from the USA, poblano chilli from Mexico or oryx goulash from Namibia.

Meat and vegetarian meals are also available in the other travel classes, according to the press release. Special vegan, kosher and gluten-free options can also be pre-ordered free of charge. To do this, passengers should contact the Discover Airlines Service Centre up to 48 hours before departure. In addition, the crew serves a freshly baked, oven-warm "cookie".

AERENA system under test

Discover Airlines is also working on upgrading its free on-board entertainment. One of its short-haul aircraft has been equipped with the new AERENA digital entertainment system, according to a press release issued at the end of last week. The retrofitted Airbus A320 will undergo a test phase of at least three years from the beginning of April 2024.

The new system includes 14-inch touchscreen displays with 4K resolution for every seat. With AERENA, passengers can personalise content and connect their own devices. Discover Airlines plans to offer high-speed internet in all travel classes as early as next year.

Faster Internet and large screens at every seat are part of an improved on-board entertainment system that Discover Airlines is currently testing on one of its short-haul aircraft.
