It's still a year away, but anticipation is half the pleasure. Starting in April 2027, Discover Airlines will offer even more comfortable non-stop flights to Namibia. The leisure airline announced it will invest hundreds of millions in a new cabin for its A330-300 long-haul aircraft.
What is of particular interest to Namibia vacationers with long legs: according to German portal 'aerotelegraph.com', legroom in Economy Class will increase by 2.5 cm. Seat pitch will be 79 cm, and storage space will increase. Discover also speaks of a "comfortable seat angle" and a six-way adjustable headrest.
The in-flight internet connection, already complimentary, will be upgraded to the fastest in-flight internet currently available from provider Starlink. Each seat will feature a significantly larger 4K touchscreen, equipped with Bluetooth (e.g. for headphones), and will offer a USB-C port.
In Premium Economy and Business Class, passengers will naturally enjoy additional benefits such as more legroom and storage space. Power outlets and wireless charging options will also be available.
'Ocean Blue' - tribute to Discover's internal start
Of the 290 seats, 227 are in Economy (in a 2-4-2 configuration), 31 in Premium Economy (2-3-2), and 30 in Business Class (1-2-1). Totally new will be two Business Class Suites. Currently, Discover Airlines' long-haul A330-300 aircraft offer between 283 (Economy: 225) and 302 seats (Economy: 244).
The new design is a perfect fit for the holiday airline: various shades of blue immediately evoke thoughts of the sea. This is also reflected in the name 'Ocean Blue' for the new cabin. According to the media release, this name in fact recalls the airline's internal start within the Lufthansa Group in 2020: Project 'Ocean'.
The first A330-300 aircraft with the new cabin is scheduled to take off in April 2027. Discover Airlines has not yet announced whether it will fly to Windhoek, and this is likely still undecided. All 16 aircraft in the long-haul fleet are expected to be equipped with 'Ocean Blue' by mid-2028.
