Introduction: Fluorapatite is common in both igneous and metamorphic rocks. It is so named because of the fluorine relevant to this group. As phosphorous is mined from apatite.  The applications are widespread in mineral feedstock, a number of pharmaceutical products, fertilizers and in detergents.

Distribution: The now defunct Uis tin mine, the Osongombe Complex and in the rocks west of Epembe in Kaokoland. The Otjisazu Complex, 20km north-east of Okahandja also contains fluorapatite in 3 different habits.

Crystal system: Hexagonal

Lustre: Resinous, vitreous

Streak: White

Hardness: 5
