Angelsite

Introduction: Named after the Isle of Anglesey in Wales, where this mineral was first discovered. Although pure anglesite is white to colourless, it can take the colour of copper. Crystals are heavy due to the specific gravity. Large crystals over 20cm were common.

Distribution: Common in the Tsumeb Mine before it closed. The Berg Aukas and Abenab West mines have also produced anglesite.

Composition: Sulphate.

Crystal system: Orthorhombic.

Lustre: Glassy, adamantine.

Streak: White.

Hardness: 2.5-3.
