Peters thread snake

Introduction: Peters' Thread snake (Leptotyphlops scutifrons) is similar to the Cape thread snake, but larger. They have a varied habitat ranging from grassland to arid savannah. Snake enthusiasts have observed that they will sham death when handled badly.

Distribution: Throughout Namibia less for the Namib Desert. They can be seen (if you're lucky) in Etosha National Park, Windhoek, and as far south as Aus. Their range extends throughout the Kalahari Desert, Caprivi Strip, Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana.

Diet: Ants, termites and fleas.

Colouring: The body is red-brown to black above and paler below.

Breeding: Females lay 3 to 7 elongated eggs in November to December, attached to each other like a string sausages.

Size: Max SVL 260mm.

Size: Max SVL 175mm
