Gariep blind legless

Introduction: Gariep Blind Legless skink (Typhlosaurus gariepensis) live among the roots of bunch grasses. Early morning signs of their movements are characterized by thin, wavy, humped lines on the dune surface.

Distribution: The vegetated sand ridges of a small section of the Kalahari Desert region of south-east Namibia.

Diet: Feeds almost exclusively on termites.

Colouring: A yellow back is adorned with 4 rows of dark streaks, forming stripes as far back as the tail.

Breeding: Mating occurs in August to September. Females give birth to a single baby after a 5 month gestation period.

Size: Max SVL 213mm.
