Introduction: The Eastern Congo Burrowing asp (Atractaspis congica) is a short, stocky reptile with enlarged, erectile front fangs and a short tail. No reports of bites have been recorded and the venom of this species has not been studied.

Distribution: Isolated recordings in the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip).

Diet: Not known.

Colouring: The back and belly are purple-brown to black.

Breeding: There are no records of breeding habits of this species.

Size: Max SVL males 481mm, female 506mm.
