Western sand lizard

Introduction: The Western Sand lizard (Pedioplanis undata) is a small, slender species similar to the Namaqua sand lizard. It has a long tail, some 3 times the length of the head and body combined.

Distribution: North and central Namibia less for the Namib Desert.

Diet: Small insects on sandy flats amongst rocky areas.

Colouring: The back is a yellowish-tan with 5 distinctive longitudinal stripes and yellow spots on the flanks.

Breeding: The mating season is in November to January and eggs hatch in January to March.

Size: SVL 45 to 50mm. Max 54mm.
