Kalahari spade snouted

Introduction: Kalahari Spade-Snouted worm lizards (Monopeltis leonhardi) prefer to burrow in shallow sands. This habitat is ideal for this medium-sized species that has 2 shields that form the 'spade'. Unfortunately for this species their main predators include jackals and yellow-billed kites.

Distribution: The sands of the Kalahari Desert of Botswana that extend into eastern Namibia.

Diet: Termites.

Colouring: Similar to Anchieta's spade-snouted worm lizard.

Breeding: There is no information on reproductive habits of this species.

Size: Max SVL 290mm.
