These geckos have large bulging eyes a sturdy body, swollen nostrils and flattened toes.

Introduction: Koch's barking gecko (Ptenopus kochi) have large bulging eyes a sturdy body, swollen nostrils and flattened toes. The body is slightly longer than the tail. They live in elaborate burrow systems dug in loose sand in dry riverbeds. Some burrows are nearly a metre in length dug 40cm into the sand.

Distribution: Southern Namib Desert areas from the Swakop River south as far as Luderitz.

Diet: Insects.

Colouring: The body is reddish-brown with dark speckles that extend to the flanks. The belly is white.

Breeding: Females lay 1 or 2 hard-shelled, white eggs.

Size: SVL 50 to 60mm. Max SVL 65mm.
