Sharp nosed reed frog

Introduction: Sharp-Nosed Reed frogs (Hyperolius acuticeps) have narrow, pointed snouts (acuticeps). Usually they are found in grassland. Males call from elevated positions on vegetation with territorial disputes common.

Distribution: Far eastern reaches of the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) only.

Diet: Earthworms and spiders.

Colouration: Distinctive green to brown upperparts, at times with lines of small dots and an overall scattering of dark specks. The underside is smooth and silvery-white.

Breeding: Nearly 300 eggs are laid in small clutches of between 2 and 20, attached to submerged vegetation.

Maximum size: 22mm
