Mapacha Grass frogs were first found in the Mapache area.

Introduction: Mapacha Grass frogs (Ptychadena mapacha) were first found in the Mapache area near Katima Mulilo. They frequent pans and the surrounding dry savannah of the area. Males are known to call from hidden locations in shallow water, recorded as a short chirp, repeated at 6 times per second.

Distribution: Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip).

Diet: Insects.

Colouration: Olive-brown upperparts with dark spots. There is usually a vertebral line and there are distinctive skin ridges on the upper lip from the snout to the base of the arm. The underside is clear.

Breeding: Tadpoles grow to 50mm.

Maximum size: 30mm.
