Introduction: The call of Kavango Pygmy toads (Poyntonophrynes kavangensis), a series of short buzzes, can be heard in flooded grasslands, whilst they cling to grass stems above the water. Ephemeral pools of water that form after rains on Kalahari sand is also a known habitat.

Distribution: Confined to north-eastern Namibia such as the Kavango region and the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip). The name kavangensis is derived from the Kavango River, along which this species is found.

Diet: Spiders, ants and termites.

Colouration: Upperparts often have 3 pairs of dark banded patches. The underside is cream coloured.

Breeding: Information on breeding habits or tadpoles is unknown.

Maximum size: 32mm.
