Monard's Dropwing were first collected by Dr Albert Monard (1886-1952) in southern Angola in 1928.

Introduction: Monard's Dropwing (Trithemis monardi) were first collected by Dr Albert Monard (1886-1952) in southern Angola in 1928. Sections of running water with reeds are a favoured habitat although they are also attracted to spring-fed dams.

Distribution: Otavi Mountains, Kunene, Kavango and Kwando Rivers, Epupa Falls.

Colouration: Bright red abdomen with black markings underside to the dorsum on S6 to S10. The upperparts of the thorax are purplish-red and the wing veins are bright red especially in flight.

Breeding: Breathing organs are one of the final stages of development.

Flight season: September to April.

Conservation: Not threatened.
