Kerstens sprite

Introduction: Kersten's Sprite (Pseudagrion kersteni) can only be observed in peaceful small streams with sedges. They are named after the German explore and chemist, Dr. Otto Kersten, who collected the first specimen in Tanzania whilst on an expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro in 1862.

Distribution: Isolated locations such as Baynes Mountains, Ongongo Falls, the small streams in the Naukluft Mountains (Gororosib, Tsams Ost and Naukluft Rivers), the Grootfontein Spring, Uropapa in the Otavi Mountains, the Waterberg and at Namutoni in Etosha National Park.

Colouration: Light blue pruinosity on the thorax and face, black on the upper eyes and green on the underside.

Breeding: Larvae are similar to adults.

Flight season: Throughout the year.

Conservation: Not threatened.
