Katambora orange

Introduction: Katambora Oranges (Ceriagrion katamborae) appear completely dark red from a distance. It is named after the village of the same name in Zambia, where the first specimen was first collected in October 1960. They favour reeds and papyrus in backwater swamps.

Distribution: The Kavango River region in the Mahango Game Reserve.

Colouration: Red to reddish-brown head and thorax, brown eyes and a white to bluish-white face. The abdomen is dark red.

Breeding: Development from larval stage to adult occurs without a pupa.

Flight season: Observations of them flying in November and December have been recorded.

Conservation: Not threatened.
