Common Bluetails are common and widespread throughout Namibia.

Introduction: Common Bluetails (Ischnura senegalensis) are common and widespread throughout Namibia. They can be found in fresh water locations in all biomes. Adults are vagrants which are known to colonise, even isolated habitats.

Distribution: From Epupa Falls extending east along the Kunene, Kavango and Zambezi Rivers south through Kaokoland, Etosha National Park, Damaraland, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, central and southern Namibia south to Fish River Canyon and the Orange River.

Colouration: Experts have described them as looking like 'black matches with a blue ring at the top'.

Breeding: (Not proven that) Common Bluetails breed in fresh waters.

Flight season: Throughout the year.

Max Size: 24-33mm.

Conservation: Not threatened.
