Topaz Tips are also called the Topaz Arab. They fly close to the ground slowly, stopping to feed on flowers.

Introduction: Topaz Tips (Colotis amata calais) are also called the Topaz Arab. They fly close to the ground slowly, stopping to feed on flowers. Expect to observe them in savannah woodland and bushveld.

Distribution: Epupa Falls, Kaokoland , Damaraland , Brandberg Mountain, Erongo Mountains, Windhoek, Okahandja, Etosha National Park .

Breeding/Larval food: The mustard bush (Salvadora persica) is a host-plant. It is one of the dominant riverine vegetation species of the Namib Desert . Their leaves are browsed by livestock, mainly for their small, round berries. This bush provides food and shelter for many a desert-dwelling creature.

Colouration: Males have pinkish-yellow uppersides with 2 rows of pinkish-yellow spots, a small black patch and a black costal border. Females are similar to males.

On the wing: Any month of the year.

Wingspan: Male and female: 32 to 35mm.
