Pale yellow acraea

Introduction: Pale Yellow Acraeas (Acraea obeira meyeri) have been observed flying slowly around trees on the tops of koppies. Granite outcrops are also favoured.

Distribution: Grootfontein and in the Waterberg Plateau. Fairly widespread in northern Namibia.

Breeding: Larval food from the nettle family is favoured.

Colouration: Obvious, orange submarginal spots appear on the forewing. The hindwings are a pale yellow with dark spots edged with red band on the outer wing. In the dry season, the marking become fainter and paler in colour.

On the wing: September to April.

Wingspan: 50mm.
