Marsh acraea

Introduction: The hurried flight of the Marsh Acraea (Acraea rahira rahira), can be seen close to streams, dams, rivers and marshes. Swarms of adults can be seen in these habitats.

Distribution: The marshy areas of northern Namibia, Kavango River region east of Rundu .

Breeding: Eggs are laid on the surfaces of leaves.

Colouration: The male is orange-brown, with black streaks on the ends of all wing veins. Black spots scatter hind and forewings.

On the wing: For most of the year especially from September to April.

Wingspan: Male: 35 to 40mm. Female: 43 to 48mm.
