Long horned skipper

Introduction: Long-horned Skippers (Borbo fatuellus) prefer to settle on shrubs or low grass on the edge of bush. This makes them fairly easy to catch. Forests and wetter bushveld regions are favoured habitats.

Distribution: Northern Namibia, Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) .

Breeding/Larval food: Larvae can be easily reared on grass where they can easily hide in shelters made from leaves stitched together with silk.

Colouration: The wide grey scaling on the underside of the hindwing is obvious in a distinctive dry-season form.

On the wing: June to August and midsummer months are the best to observe this species.

Wingspan: Approx 40mm.
