Introduction: The Common Friar (Amauris (A) niavius dominicanus) can be observed forest biomes. Amauris is Greek, meaning dark.

Distribution: Observed at Namutoni and other northern Namibian locations.

Colouration: Black and white markings on both wings, although the female has larger white patches on the hindwings than the male. The veins on the wing are outlined in black.

Breeding/Larval food: Not confirmed.

On the wing: All year round but more common in the warmer months.

Wingspan: Male: 80 to 85mm. Female: 80 to 85mm.
