Kavango catlet

Introduction: The Kavango catlet (Zaireichthys kavangoensis) differs from other species in the same genus in the narower premaxillary tooth patch and a smaller number of of rays in its median fins.

Distribution: The Kavango catlet is found in the Kavango River system, specifically in the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the Zambezi region in Namibia.

Diet: In the wild, Kavango tetras primarily feed on small aquatic insects, crustaceans, and plant matter.

Colouring: This tetra species exhibits remarkable colouration, with shimmering silver bodies and distinctive horizontal black stripes. During breeding, males may display more intense colours to attract females.

Reproduction: Kavango catlets are egg scatterers, releasing their adhesive eggs among fine-leaved plants.

Size: The Kavango catlet typically grows to a length of about 3 cm, making it a relatively small.
