Straightfin barb

Enteromius paludinosus
The Straightfin Barb, found in Namibian rivers, is named for its straight and elongated dorsal fin. It is also wall-adapted to swampy habitats and can tolerate low oxygen levels.

Straightfin barb

Introduction: The straightfin barb (Enteromius paludinosus) is a species of freshwater fish belonging to the Cyprinidae family. It is native to the Zambezi River system and associated floodplains, including certain regions in Namibia.

Distribution: The straightfin barb is found in the Zambezi River system and associated floodplains.

Diet: The straightfin barb is an omnivorous fish, feeding on various small insects, crustaceans, and plant matter.

colouration: The straightfin barb is known for its vibrant colouration. It has a golden-yellow body with striking red fins, which add a pop of colour to any aquarium. The contrast between the red fins and the yellow body makes it a visually appealing fish.

Breeding: Breeding behaviour in the straightfin barb can be triggered by providing the fish with appropriate environmental conditions, such as water temperature and water quality. They may scatter their eggs among fine-leaved plants in the wild, and similar conditions can be replicated in a well-maintained aquarium to encourage spawning.

Size: The straightfin barb is a relatively small fish, with adult individuals reaching lengths of about 5 to 6 centimetres.
