The Slender Happy is typically found in slow-moving waters with vegetation.

Slender happy

Introduction: The slender happy (Chetia gracilis), is a small species of freshwater fish belonging to the family Cyprinidae. It is found in certain regions of southern Africa.

Distribution: The slender happy is native to Namibia and other countries in southern Africa, including Angola and Zambia. It prefers clear, fast-flowing streams and rivers with rocky substrates and abundant vegetation.

Diet: The slender happy is an omnivorous fish that feeds on a variety of food items. Its diet includes aquatic insects, small crustaceans, algae, and plant matter. They are agile swimmers and use their streamlined body to capture prey efficiently.

colouration: The slender happy has a slender, elongated body with a silver colouration on the sides and a whitish belly. They have a dark stripe running along the lateral line of their body. Their fins are typically transparent or lightly coloured.

Breeding: Breeding behaviour of the slender happy is not extensively studied. During the breeding season, they are likely to spawn in areas with dense vegetation. Like many cyprinids, they may scatter their eggs in the substrate, and the eggs hatch without parental care.

Size: Theslender happy is a relatively small fish, reaching an average length of about 6 to 8 centimetres. Its slender body allows it to navigate swiftly in the fast-flowing streams it inhabits.
