Introduction: Thrush nightingales (Luscinia luscinia) generally prefer dry ground with dense, woody thickets. A feature of their behaviour is to raise the tail, flicking or spreading it from side to side.

Distribution: Chobe River and western Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip).
Diet: Searches mainly on the ground for spiders. Also takes small, soft berries.

Description: A small thrush-like robin with a powerful voice, capable of varied and tuneful songs. Luscinaia is a Latin word for 'the nightingale'. Upper parts a dark brown, tinged with olive-grey. Flight feathers are blackish grey with variable underpart markings.
Breeding: Extralimital.

Size: 16cm.

Weight: 25g.
