Introduction: Not surprisingly rock martins (Hirundo fuligula) can be found on rocky hills, quarries, cliffs and buildings. Often occur far from water in semi-desert regions. Perches on window ledges and rocks.

Distribution: Absent from north-east Namibia and the driest parts of the Namib Desert. Widespread throughout the rest of the country.

Diet: Forages at night around bright neon lights to catch insects aerially. Also catches prey over rocks and at low-tide on beaches.

Description: Brown head and upper parts, square, plain brown, forked tail.

Breeding: Females usually lay 2 or 3 eggs between September and December in a mud pellet cup lined with feathers and grass.

Size: 12cm.

Weight: 22g.
