Miombo blue-eared starlings are also known as lesser blue-eared starlings.

Miombo blue eared starling

Introduction: Miombo blue-eared starlings (Lamprotornis elisabeth) are also known as lesser blue-eared starlings. This species was named after the wife of Erwin Stresemann (1889-1972), a German naturalist and one of the 20th century's outstanding ornithologists. Miombo savannah is their primary habitat followed by savannah woodland.

Distribution: Kwando River, Chobe River and in the vicinity of Katima Mulilo.
Diet: Eats fruit and nectar. Also takes grasshoppers and beetles.

Description: Glossy blue-green upper parts, tail and wings, chin, throat and breast.
Breeding: Will nest in a natural tree cavity or old woodpecker or barbet hole. From 2 to 5 eggs are laid from September to March.

Size: 18cm.

Weight: 59g.
