Marico flycatcher

Introduction: Although Marico flycatchers (Bradornis mariquensis) favour an arid Acacia savannah type habitat, they can also be observed in mixed and mopane woodland, but only if Acacia trees are present. Found singly, small groups of up to 5 are common.

Distribution: Widespread and common throughout the country less for the Namib Desert and the south.
Diet: Scans from the perch for caterpillars, small grasshoppers, flies, termites and some fruits.

Description: 2 of the 3 subspecies of Marico flycatcher can be found in Namibia. They differ mainly in shades of brown on the back, rump, wings and upper tail coverts.
Breeding: The female builds a dry grass and weed stems nest, accompanied by the male. From 2 to 4 eggs are laid year-round.

Size: 17cm.
