Introduction: The harsh twitter of the great sparrow (Passer motitensis) can be heard in Acacia dominated woodland and shrubland. They drink water often, especially at waterholes where they can be observed mainly singly or in pairs

Distribution: Common throughout most of Namibia, less for southern Namib Desert and most of the Kavango Region.
Diet: Forages in trees and on the ground for seeds and insects.

Description: Slightly larger than house sparrows. Streaky blackish, tawny back with a dark grey-brown tail and flight feathers. Chin and throat black, with remainder of underparts whitish.
Breeding: Usually 2 to 4 eggs are laid from November to April in a thick, hollow, asparagus and grass ball.

Size: 16cm.

Weight: 32g.
