Amur falcon

Falco amurensis
Amur falcons inhabit open grassland and savannah including crop-lands, usually in small parties leading up to large flocks often with lesser kestrels and red-footed falcons.

Introduction: Amur falcons (Falco amurensis) inhabit open grassland and savannah including crop-lands, usually in small parties leading up to large flocks often with lesser kestrels and red-footed falcons. Sighting of them perching on utility poles or fences are common as is milling around for up to 1hr at dusk before settling in to roost. Also known as the eastern red-footed kestrel.

Distribution: Etosha National Park and the Caprivi.

Diet: Hunts from the perch or by hovering for mainly locusts and grasshoppers, beetles and bees.

Description: Predominately blue-grey plumage with blackish flight feathers and orange-red feet and legs.

Breeding: Non-Namibian breeder.

Size: 30cm.

Weight: 150g.
