Sterna albifrons
Although sightings of little terns are fairly rare in Namibia, they do inhabit estuaries, salt pans and coastal lagoons.

Introduction: Although sightings of little terns (Sterna albifrons) are fairly rare in Namibia, they do inhabit estuaries, salt pans and coastal lagoons. Sandbanks or islands at estuary mouths are preferred roosting sites.

Distribution: Orange River estuary, Swakopmund,

Diet: Forages in coastal lagoons and estuaries by using a hover and plunge technique for small fish, crustaceans and insects.

Description: Albifrons is Latin for 'white forehead'.

Breeding: Breeds in Palearctic and north and west Africa amongst other worldwide areas.

Size: 24cm.

Weight: 50g.

Wingspan: 55cm.
