Knob billed duck

Introduction: The Knob-Billed Duck (Sarkidiornis melanotos) is a unique and impressive waterfowl species found in Namibia. Named for the distinctive knob on its bill, this duck stands out in the wetlands it inhabits.

Distribution: Knob-Billed Ducks are primarily found in Namibia's wetlands and marshy areas, where they thrive in their specialized habitats.

Diet: These ducks are omnivorous and feed on a variety of aquatic plants, seeds, insects, and small fish found in their wetland environments.

Description: The Knob-Billed Duck is characterized by its large size, striking black and white plumage, and, most notably, the unique knob at the base of its bill.

Breeding: Knob-Billed Ducks construct nests on the ground, concealed in dense vegetation near water sources. The female incubates the eggs and cares for the young.

Size: Approximately 70cm.

Weight: Around 1.4kg.
