Fun Fact: Chalcopyrite is named from the Greek word for copper, Chalkos.

Introduction: Chalcopyrite resembles pyrite and is also named from the Greek word for copper, Chalkos. Most chalcopyrite ore is usually found in metamorphic and igneous rock in lumps or massive veins in those host rocks.

Distribution: Similar distribution ranges to that of bornite and chalcocite, as these three minerals (in various amounts) have been recorded in over 300 copper deposits throughout Namibia.

Composition: Sulphide

Crystal system: Tetragonal

Lustre: Metallic

Streak: Greenish-black

Hardness: 3.5-4
