Fun Fact: It is a common rock-forming mineral found in granites.

Introduction: Albite is white, hence its derivation from the Latin, 'albus'.  It is a common rock-forming mineral found in granites and other silica-rich igneous rocks.

Distribution: Occurs in large crystals in the Karibib-Usakos areas and from Klein Spitzkoppe, Erongo and the Rubicon pegmatites. Albite is also produced at the Natas and Kos mineral localities at Gamsberg.

Composition: Silicate

Crystal system: Triclinic

Lustre: Pearly

Streak: White

Hardness: 6-6.5
