Olive grass snake

Introduction: The Olive Grass snake is similar to the Short-Snouted Grass snake. They forage in marshy areas and will bite readily. The venom will cause nausea and pain. Anti-venom is ineffective in the treatment of a bite from this snake. They prefer a habitat of moist savannah and low-lying grassland.

Distribution: North of Windhoek extending west to the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) and Chobe National Park.

Diet: Other snakes including young black mambas.

Colouring: An olive-brown back with stripes. The belly is white.

Breeding: Females lay between 10 and 30 eggs in dead leaves in midsummer.

Size: Max SVL male 1.4m, female 1.3m.
