Fun Fact: Karoo Sand snakes are the most common snake in southern Namibia.

Introduction: Karoo Sand snakes or Whip snakes (Psammophis notostictus) are the most common snake in southern Namibia and many are killed crossing roads. They prefer a dry scrubland. They are lender snakes with a long tail that are very fast when after prey.

Distribution: Namib Desert, southern and central Namibia.

Diet: Skinks and lacertids are chased in the hot afternoon sun.

Colouring: The back is light grey to dark brown with stripes and spots. The belly is off-white with strips and blushes.

Breeding: Females lay about 3 eggs in October.

Size: Max SVL male, 680mm, female 733mm.
