Speckled thicktoed gecko

Introduction: Speckled thick-toed geckos (Pachydactylus punctatus) are small, terrestrial geckos, common to Namibia and suitable for almost any habitat. They live on sandy soils, sheltering under any suitable cover such as tunnels, rotting logs and stones. Their preferred habitat is dry savannah.

Distribution: Throughout Namibia including Etosha National Park, Fish River Canyon and the Kalahari Desert, but not in found in the harsher conditions of the Namib Desert. Their range extends along the Carprivi Strip to Victoria Falls.

Diet: They emerge at night to hunt for small invertebrates

Colouring: Colouration is varied and the back may be pale grey to purple-brown, with numerous dark spots and scattered light spots, hence the name.

Breeding: Females lay 2 eggs in midsummer.

Size: SVL 25 to 35mm. Max SVL 39mm.
