San steyns thicktoed gecko

Fun Fact: San Steyn's thick-toed gecko is small and slender.

Introduction: San Steyn's thick-toed gecko (Pachydactylus sansteyni) is endemic to Namibia. It is small and slender with enlarged hind limbs. They live on the ground mostly under sandstone boulders on sandy soil.

Distribution: They are found in the vicinity of Kuidas in south Kaokoland, extending north to the Kunene River mouth.

Diet: They emerge at night to feed on small insects.

Colouring: The back is mauvish-brown above with a series of dark brown spots on the body.

Breeding: Females lay a clutch of 2 eggs.

Size: SVL 35 to 45mm. Max SVL 48mm.
