Marico thicktoed gecko

Introduction: The Marico thick-toed gecko (Pachydactylus mariquensis latirostris) is a small, slender, thin-legged gecko with a short snout. They are a terrestrial creature that favours living on sandy, flat plains. They shelter during the day in old scorpion holes or under stones.

Distribution: Isolated populations can be found around Spitzkoppe and south-west of Brandberg.

Diet: Night time foraging for small insects.

Colouring: A pinkish-buff to grey back has a number of reddish-brown dark-edged crossbands. The belly is creamy-white and regenerated tails are grey-brown with scattered black flecks.

Breeding: Females lay 1 or 2 clutches consisting of 2 hard-shelled eggs laid in sandy soil or under a slab of rock in October to March.

Size: SVL 40 to 50mm. Max SVL 57mm.
