Snoring puddle frog

Introduction: Snoring Puddle frogs (Phrynobatrachus natalensis) are so called for their slow snoring calls, made from the edges of pools of water and vleis. Along the edges of shallow marshes, rivers, streams, pools and lakes are their main habitats.

Distribution: Northern Namibia less for the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast. Found in Etosha National Park, the Kavango region and Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip).

Diet: Aquatic insects, earthworms and spiders.

Colouration: Light to dark grey upperparts with variable markings such as small light or dark blotches. Numerous warts adorn the dorsal skin including a conspicuous pair on the shoulders. The underside is cream-coloured with some specks.

Breeding: Open water is favoured for breeding.

Maximum size: 40mm.
