Lemaires toad

Amietophrynus lemairii
Fun Fact: Features include a large body, with a narrow, pointed head.

Introduction: Lemaire's toad (Amietophrynus lemairii) were named after Lemaire's expedition to what is known today as the Democratic Republic of Congo. Features include a large body, with a narrow, pointed head. They are always near permanent water bodies, often on floodplains, where males call out from flooded grassland with a short croak.

Distribution: Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) only from Mabango National Park eastwards through Katima Mulilo and on to Victoria Falls.

Diet: Insects such as spiders and termites.

Colouration: Greenish to reddish upperparts, with a pale vertebral line. The snout is adorned with dark patches. The tympanum is distinct and as large as the eye.

Breeding: No information is available on tadpoles of this species.

Maximum size: 70mm.
