Wild ebony

Wild ebony (Euclea pseudebenus): Wild ebony belongs to the cocoa family. It is a semi-deciduous shrub often with multi-stems growing on the rocky substrates of the central and north-central regions of Namibia. Dark-grey to black bark develops into rough, fissured and corky appearance. The pale yellow-green to dark green leaves have a grey, thin woolly exterior. The creamy-white flowers are at times pink and stay on the plant for months, eventually changing to a brown papery look, displaying from March to June and on to December.

Game and livestock browse the leaves and the awkward stance of the thin trunk is a feature of this plant. The small fruits are edible and the dried wood termite resistant.
