Paper bark acacia: The spreading crown of the deciduous paper bark acacia Acacia sieberiana, grows from around 7 to 12m in the far north of Namibia including near the floodplains of the Kavango River, regional sandy plains and on the Kwando River banks and Linyati Marshes. The rough, papery yellowy grey-brown bark, flakes off in time showing off a yellow under bark.

Straight and long, the slender pale brown thorns are dotted with black specks. Other qualities are dark green leaves and a brown sickle-shaped fruit pod. Off-white flowers bloom from September to December and although this plant is pleasant garden tree it is frost sensitive. Game and small stock browse the pods and leaves. Locals use the bark to thread beads.
