Creeping foxglove

Creeping Foxgloves (Asystasia gangetica) are an attractive ground cover plant that belongs to the subfamily Acanthaceae. They can be found in the forest and woodland in the Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip).

Their dark-green foliage is adorned with large numbers of small sweet-smelling creamy-white foxglove-looking flowers which have distinctive purple markings. Flowering time is in the spring and summer time. The larvae of the Common Mother-of-Pearl and Eyed Pansy are attracted to this plant. The leaves can also be eaten as spinach.
