Fun Fact: They have flattened heads and slender bodies.

Introduction: Smooth hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna zygaena) have flattened heads and slender bodies. The front edge of the large 'hammer' is smoothly curved. The large fins are well-developed and the small mouth has triangular, strongly slanting and finely serrated teeth.

Distribution: Occurs in Namibian waters from the Orange to Kunene Rivers including Swakopmund and Luderitz, Terrace Bay, Torra Bay and Henties Bay.

Diet: Squid and bony fish.

Colouration: Dusky grey above with a white underside.

Breeding: Litters of more than 30 pups have been recorded following a 6 month gestation period.

Max size: 350cm

Max weight: 92kg
